Is Amazon's New Music Cloud Service Legally Risky?

Amazon.com launched a Web-based music storage service Tuesday, but legal uncertainties could determine if it gets sued by record labels or safely treads a new path that Google and Apple will likely soon follow. The Amazon (AMZN) service could provide a new revenue stream for the company, and a new avenue of convenience for music lovers. It could also further the financial headaches the recording industry has experienced from the tidal wave of

Adobe Lowers Outlook On Japan's Woes, But Q1 Results Beat Analyst Expectations

Digital media software firm Adobe Systems late Tuesday posted results that topped views, but it lowered its outlook on weaker sales to Japan in the wake of that country's devastating earthquake. Adobe (ADBE) shares were up a fraction after hours, following the release of its fiscal Q1 results and Q2 outlook. Adobe shares rose 1.7% in the regular session to 32.88. The maker of Photoshop, Acrobat and other products said it earned 58 cents a share,

From the GREAT STATE OF MAINE?

Friday Carlin

Cuz after this week I think we could use some pearls d'George:

There are caregivers and there are caretakers, and yet the two words are not opposites. Why is this?
-
Trade always exists for the traders. Any time you hear businessmen debating "which policy is better for America," don?t bend over.
-
A courtesy bus driver once told me to go fuck myself.
-
I think they should have a hotline that never answers, for people who don?t follow advice in the first place.
-
The word bipartisan usually means some larger-than-usual deception is being carried out.
-
You know what would have been a smart thing to do in these developing countries that need electricity? To have tried large-scale experiments with alternative energy sources: solar, wind, geothermal, etc. We could have tested and tried to perfect these technologies on a large scale in places that need it. That would have been smart. That's why we didn?t do it.
-
George Washington's brother was the Uncle of Our Country.
-
Have you ever wondered why Republicans are so interested in encouraging people to volunteer in their communities? It's because volunteers work for no pay. Republicans have been trying to get people to work for no pay for a long time.

We now return you to your regularly-scheduled mayhem.

Your west coast-friendly edition of  Cheers and Jeers starts below the fold... [Swoosh!!] RIGHTNOW! [Gong!!]

Late afternoon/early evening open thread

What's coming up on Sunday Kos ?.

  • Dante Atkins spent spring break driving the West Coast from Los Angeles to Seattle, and will offer a perspective on a 3,000-mile round-trip sojourn through progressive eyes.
  • brooklynbadboy will write about the state of the two major political parties.
  • Laurence Lewis will discuss the ideals and realities of foreign policy.
  • For the first time?and quite possibly the last time?Kaili Joy Gray will defend Sarah Palin. Sort of.
  • Heard about the GOP cutting off food stamps to strikers' families? Heard that's not such a big change to current law after all? Don't turn away just yet. David Waldman will show you where the House Republican Crazies hid still more surprises in their "welfare reform" bill, including yet another attack on abortion rights.
  • Flu Wiki? These days, it's Radiation Wiki. DemFromCT discusses how
crowd-sourcing fills the information gap when official responses are slow to address
    doubt.
