Sarah Palin: I was a more powerful governor than Rick Perry

Sarah Palin
Former half-term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, earlier today in Iowa:
If Palin had a political goal today, it was to dampen speculation that she would endorse Rick Perry, which she did effectively. Musing on the contrast of the "very powerful" Alaska governorship with the "not as powerful" Texas one and allowing that she'd be enthusiastic about him only in case he wins the nomination.

"If at the end of the line he's the one left standing I would be extremely enthused about him" on the principle of "Anybody But Obama," she said.

Granted, the governor's office in Texas is less powerful than the governor's office in most other states, but wouldn't it be easier to take Palin seriously if she hadn't quit 30 months into her first term? Who knows, maybe she was a more powerful governor than Rick Perry, but the one thing we do know is that she couldn't hack it even though her state has just 4 percent the population of Texas.

Palin also said she'd announce whether or not she's running for president within a month or two, perhaps by the end of September, because she doesn't want to be accused of "stringing people along." (Newsflash, Sarah: No one will accuse you of stringing them along because nobody believes you are running.)

Finally, Palin criticized last night's debate moderators for focusing on trivia. She tried to say that they should have focused on "substantive" issues, but instead:

"C'mon, let's talk about substantial issues," she said.

Like, for example, whether she was more powerful than Rick Perry during the two-plus years she was governor.
